What to see and what to do in Zaragoza?

The capital of Aragon is full of history and culture and also has a gastronomy that is among the best in Spain.

With more than 2,000 years of history, Zaragoza offers you the opportunity to visit its Roman ruins: the walls, the forum, the Roman theater, the thermal baths...

Architecturally, Zaragoza shows the most varied styles: from Romanesque and Gothic to Renaissance and Baroque, passing, of course, through the Aragonese Mudejar.

In the old town you cannot miss the Basilica del Pilar, the great icon of the city, the Cathedral of El Salvador and its many museums. The area is characterized by its elegant boutiques and wide boulevards. The main roads are Avenida Gran Vía and Paseo de la Independencia, the best area to go shopping.

We advise you to visit interesting places such as Pignatelli and Miraflores parks, the Public Library of Aragon, the General Captaincy, the Palace of Justice, the Puerta del Carmen, the Church of Santa Engracia and the Paraninfo.

If you are looking for a more youthful area, go to Romareda. There is the main campus of the University of Zaragoza, with many pubs and bars, just a step away from the city center. Housing the Museum of Ceramics, the Zaragoza Auditorium and the Romareda Football Stadium.

Finally, the Arrabal neighborhood can be considered as the second historic center of Zaragoza. It has a medieval style and has tourist attractions such as the Balcony of San Lázaro, where you can visit the remains of the Convent of San Lázaro.

What to eat in Zaragoza?

As we told you before, gastronomy is one of the great attractions of Zaragoza and, therefore, of all of Aragon. Among the typical dishes that you cannot stop trying when you visit the city, the Aragón lamb stands out, roasted young lamb, stewed and even grilled chops, which is to lick your fingers.

The migas are a simple but substantial dish, very typical in Zaragoza. It is prepared by adding garlic and sausage. Sometimes grapes or a fried egg are added.

Borage is among the best examples of the excellent Aragonese garden. These are boiled vegetables to which any type of accompaniment can be added, the most common being ham and potatoes.

And, of course, there is no better way to taste the wonderful Aragonese gastronomy than to try some of the magnificent wines of the land, such as Somontano, Campo de Borja or Calatayud.
