In the summer of 2019, ILUNION Hotels celebrated a massive party in Madrid for the company's 30th anniversary. An extraordinary milestone for society in general, since, during these 30 years of intense and dedicated work, the hotel chain has positioned itself as leaders in universal accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities.

Its commitment to facilitate accessible tourism is absolute. All of its employees (more than 40% have a disability of some kind), can understand the reasons why, according to one study, approximately half of people with reduced mobility and other disabilities give up going on vacation due to lack of accessibility at some point in their travel.

To address this problem and provide access to tourism as a right of all, ILUNION Hotels has resolved completely to ensure that, in its 26 hotels spread around the Spanish world, all guests who decide to stay in them feel included. Each of these establishments has obtained the Global Certificate in Universal Accessibility (UNE 170001), which allows all people, with or without disabilities, to access their environments, products and services to the same level of utility.

If you plan to make your next trip to one of the main cities of Spain or somewhere on the coast, the ILUNION chain offers you the best destinations. All its establishments are sustainable, and in them you will discover the warmth and professionalism of the staff that work there and participate in projects that are committed to an egalitarian, supportive world and where, above all, people prevail.

The hotel chain promotes different initiatives to sensitize society about the need and importance of accessible tourism for all people. Recently it celebrated in three of its accommodations in Madrid, within the framework of ‘Madrid Hotel Week’, a blind role-play in which 33 people participated. The objective was that the participants could see first-hand the difficulties faced by blind or visually impaired people in their daily routine, such as entering a restaurant, having a glass of wine or tasting an exquisite plate of food. The experience was very rewarding and they are already preparing upcoming calls that will take place in 2020.

Also, in its firm commitment to accessible tourism, ILUNION Hotels also announced this year that they have been pioneers in implementing their website and the accessible booking engine. A breakthrough that allows any person with physical, visual or hearing disability to effectively and autonomously manage their accommodation in this hotel chain.

There is still much work to be done to permanently eliminate the physical and psychological barriers that people with disabilities often encounter. However, ILUNION Hotels are on the right track, contributing decisively with their actions to improve the lives of these people and those of their families and, ultimately, creating a better and fairer society for all.
